On Saturday September 17, 2016 cyclists from 12 area communities will ride to the Dartmouth YMCA to celebrate the completion of the 3rd Annual Summer Bike Challenge . The Summer Bike Challenge is an awareness event for the regional South Coast Bikeway Alliance (SCBA), a nonprofit volunteer organization working to build the South Coast Bikeway. The Summer Bike Challenge encourages people to ride more often and go further than they ever thought they could. This event helps demonstrate that the South Coast Bikeway, a regional bikeway from Swansea to Wareham, would be well used by regional residents and visitors.
In this challenge, over 69 cyclists have ridden over 72,517 miles since May 1 for the South Coast Bikeway Alliance Team which is part of the National Bike Challenge. Riders will gather at the Dartmouth YMCA's Fall Festival and be recognized for their accomplishments. Over $800 in prizes will be awarded. In the challenge people earn points for each mile they ride as well as points for each day that they ride. Top male and female riders overall and in each of the communities will win prizes based on points earned. Additionally, the community which logged the most miles (per capita) will receive a trophy.
Come see what the South Coast Bikeway Alliance is doing towards their goal of achieving a 50-mile continuous system of bike paths and bike lanes that will connect Rhode Island and Cape Cod.
